Foundation stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage at St Aidan’s consists of the Nursery and Reception classes. The age range of the children is 3 – 5.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Principles of treating each child as a unique child, offering them positive relationships within enabling environments to provide for their learning and development.

The Curriculum is set out in 3 Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

All of these areas of development are delivered both inside and outside, as we are lucky enough at St Aidan’s to be able to provide outside areas for Nursery and Reception, which have covered areas that can be used in all weathers.

We provide a range of activities to engage the children in their learning and make sure that the activities are suited to the stage of development that each child is at. We constantly observe the children in their play, so that we can plan activities that will extend and challenge their thinking and understanding.

We work in partnership with the parents to enable children to settle quickly and easily into both Nursery and Reception. We do this by conducting Home visits and inviting the children to the settings to familiarise themselves with the adults who will be looking after them.
