At St Aidan’s we want every child to be healthy and physically active. Through our P.E lessons we teach children the skills they need to understand how their bodies work, to develop their own fitness, and to take part in a range of team and individual sports. Children from Years 1 to 6 receive 2 hours a week of Physical Education. This covers games, gymnastics and dance. Children in Year 6 have weekly swimming lessons at Park Road Leisure Centre. Children also take part in San Juro, a form of martial arts exercises, every morning before school.

In the Foundation Stage Physical Development is seen as a prime curriculum area, and structured activities are provided daily to help children improve gross and fine motor skills, control of movements, coordination, confidence and imagination through movements . Children in Reception also have a separate P.E lesson once a week.

In addition to class lessons, St Aidan’s promotes Physical Education through a range of after-school clubs, including football, gymnastics and street dance. Children from St Aidan’s have participated in swimming galas, gymnastics events and football tournaments. These events give children a sense of achievement and team spirit, as well as an understanding of rules and competitiveness in sport.

Our annual sports days are a great way to celebrate our love of sport and the children’s progress throughout the year.
