Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
St Aidan's vision is to prepare children to enter the ever changing world with the skills and knowledge to succeed in whatever they choose to do. We live in a fast changing technological age where we all have access to a variety of computer technologies at our fingertips.
In ICT we prepare our children to be able to apply their knowledge and skills in this technology to a variety of situations in order to problem solve, locate information and present their findings in a clear and coherent way.
Some of the topics that we use to facilitate the acquisition of these skills are:
- Word processing
- Data handling
- Information retrieval
- Spreadsheets
- Games
ICT is used as a tool to support children's work across the curriculum where they are able to use the internet to research their topics, word process their work and use a combination of texts and graphics to enrich its presentation and completion.
Whilst we encourage children to use ICT in order to support their learning, we are also aware that ICT can open children up to a world of information and in particular websites that are not suitable for their age. As a school we adopt a strict internet safety policy and monitor all access to the World Wide Web. We work in partnership with parents to educate children in how to use the internet safely and encourage them to report anything that they are not comfortable with.
