A word from Nic Hunt

Welcome to Purple class and the final year here at St Aidan’s! Year 6 is an action packed year full of exciting challenges and new experiences.

At the beginning of the year we all get to go on a five day adventure at Pendarren House, in Wales, where there are opportunities to take part in activities such as canoeing, abseiling and caving. At the end of the year we generally spend a few days at Scout camp which is always terrific fun too.

As with the other juniors we go swimming every week, but we also take part in lots of sports tournaments against other schools across the borough. Some of our more gifted sportsters even go to neighbouring secondary schools for training.

St Aidan’s has developed links with a number of schools across the world, in places like Finland, Germany, France and India and there may even be a chance to take part in a trip to one of these schools.

While Year 6 is full of fun it is also the year in which the SATs exams take place in May. These exams last for one week and test pupils’ knowledge and understanding of English, Mathematics and Science. There is nothing to worry about, though – it’s actually a really enjoyable week at school!

During the Summer term we start work on our end-of-year production. These spectaculars, always performed to packed audiences, are a terrific send-off for our seniors and a great inspiration to the rest of the school.

Although we wave goodbye at the end of term our children have a special place with us at St Aidan’s and we are always delighted when they come back to visit us.
